(PEOPLE.com) -- Barbara Walters is "recovering as expected" after having surgery to replace a faulty heart valve, a rep for "The View" co-host said Friday in a statement.
"[Her] surgery went well and the doctors are very pleased with the outcome," adds the rep.
Walters, 80, who made the announcement on the daytime talk show Monday, said she kept news of the surgery a secret because "I thought it best not to talk about it too far in advance."
Walters says she expected to be in recovery for a month to three months. "Since the summer is coming up," she said, "I can take a nice vacation."
