So far in 2011, the storm of the hurricane season is Irene, at landfall a Category 1 storm, now a tropical storm affecting the eastern U.S. between August 26 and August 29.

The storm smashed into North Carolina on Saturday, made a second landfall on the Jersey shore followed by Long Island early Sunday morning. It's now working it's way up New England.
