Download Mozilla Firefox Latest Version - Mozilla Firefox Web Browser — Free Download

Microsoft and Mozilla have teamed up to create a new browsing option: A version of the popular Firefox browser will be available for download with Bing as the integrated search engine.

Mozilla announced the partnership in a blog post, describing the new browser as "a customized version of Firefox that sets Bing as the default search engine in the search box and AwesomeBar and makes Bing.com the default home page."

The Bing team, in a blog post, said they are "excited to make it even easier for members of the Mozilla Firefox community to use Bing." Members of the Mozilla Firefox community who do wish to use Bing can download it here, at firefoxwithbing.com

This isn't the first collaboration between Microsoft and Mozilla. In October 2010 Firefox 4 launched with new search bar options for users who preferred to search the web using an engine other than Google; Microsoft's Bing, a little over a year old at that point, was one of those options, along with Yahoo's search, Amazon product search, Wikipedia and eBay.

Though Bing-loving Firefox users had been able to download a Bing Add-On for Firefox to make the Microsoft product their default search engine, or reconfigure the default search engine via Firefox's configuration settings, this new, separate browser makes it much, much easier to use Bing as the default search on Firefox.

Bing was introduced by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer in July 2009, and ever since it has done nothing but lose $5.5 billion for the company, with some reports showing Bing now losing one billion dollars per quarter. Though Bing is the default search engine on BlackBerry phones, Windows Phones and on Microsoft's Internet Explorer (still the most used browser in the world by a huge margin even as its market share falls to competitors like Firefox and Google Chrome), it has still yet to make a dent in the search engine market; it sits at about 4 percent global usage, trailing behind Google, Yahoo and China's Baidu.

Starhub iphone4s 新电信的iPhone4S预购2小时就被抢光了

Labels:

Read More

singtel mobile: NFC payments coming to Singapore mid-2012

Labels:

singtel shop, singtel iphone 4s, singtel singapore, singtel, m1 iphone 4s: The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has appointed a consortium to develop and deploy an interoperable NFC infrastructure and mobile payments system throughout Singapore.

Expected to launch mid-2012, the service will enable Singapore residents to use their NFC-enabled phones to make contactless purchases at retail locations as well as in taxis. Eventually, the service will be expanded to incorporate transit ticketing, mobile couponing, loyalty, NFC-enabled advertising and other value-added services.

Consortium members include Citibank, DBS Bank; mobile operators M1, SingTel and StarHub; payment service provider EZ-Link and Gemalto will provide its Trusted Services Manager.

In this collaboration, Gemalto will develop and operate the TTP infrastructure. DBS, EZ-Link and Citibank will offer a range of their credit and debit cards to be issued over-the-air through Gemalto and stored on the secure chips in their customers’ NFC-enabled mobile phones for contactless payments. The services will be launched progressively across all three mobile operators - M1, SingTel and StarHub - starting next year.

According to IDA, NFC payments will be available at more than 20,000 retail points already accepting MasterCard and Visa contactless cards, as well as Singapore’s CEPAS payments standard. Businesses can also use NFC-enabled digital signs located at more than 600 locations in major shopping malls and office buildings throughout Singapore.

IDA and the seven companies are investing a total of $31.5 million (US) through the Call-for-Collaboration (CFC) to deploy the TTP infrastructure and more than ten NFC mobile payment and value-added services by 2014. The services will be rolled out progressively, with at least three NFC mobile payment services available from mid-2012, says IDA.

In addition to the consortium, IDA is encouraging other payment and value-added service providers to use the infrastructure to deploy their own NFC mobile services, thereby creating a true NFC ecosystem. Read More

High traffic volume swamps SingTel's iPhone 4S booking services - singtel iphone 4s pre order preorder

Labels:

, ,

singtel iphone 4s, singtel iphone 4s preorder, singtel shop, m1 iphone 4s pre order, singtel : The Straits Times reported that SingTel's online appointment process was delayed for nearly 20 minutes. Its servers were down until 10.19am, presumably due to high traffic volume.

The report said users who tried to access the website were shown different error messages.

Users said they also received a message to call SingTel's helpline at 1688. Ms Chew Siew Theng said on Facebook that even though the website directed her to the helpline the line was so busy that she couldn't call in

Hundreds of people who did not manage to get an appointment expressed their displeasure on SingTel's Facebook page.

CK Ng posted on SingTel's Facebook: 'Dear SingTel, did the pre-registration of interest not give you an idea of the expected load? Why then did your appointment booking site fail to handle the load of people coming in to register?'

At 2pm, SingTel opened another avenue for customers. It announced on its Facebook page that it was taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4S at its online shop. However the website was quickly flooded with requests as well. At 3.02pm, it announced that the online shop was experiencing high traffic volume and asked users 'to try again in a moment'.

Those who had earlier expressed interest in an iPhone 4S from SingTel had the option to register for an appointment betweeen Oct 28 to 30 to buy the gadget during SingTel's iPhone 4S launch. Read More

SINGAPORE: You may be able to pay for your purchases by "tapping" your mobile phone at more than 20,000 retail points and taxis by mid-2012.

This is made possible through a technology called Near Field Communication (NFC).

It uses the concept of a contactless card, such as EZ-Link cards but a mobile phone in this instance, opening up a wider range of options.

For example, users may tap their phones against an NFC-enabled menu to place an order at a restaurant.

They may also tap their phones against a movie poster to buy movie tickets.

This service is made possible through a consortium which was set up after the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore made a Call-for-Collaboration with industry players to set up a nationwide NFC infrastructure in 2010.

IDA decided to award the Call-for-Collaboration to a consortium comprising seven companies.

The companies include the three mobile operators - M1, SingTel and StarHub - and payment service providers Citibank, DBS and EZ-Link as well as Gemalto, a digital security company which serves as a neutral third party linking up the payment service providers to the telcos.

IDA and the seven companies will invest S$40 million on the NFC infrastructure to reach out to all mobile subscribers in Singapore.

Such a model will allow service providers to reach as many consumers as possible, which benefits both the service providers and consumers.

Mr Tan Eng Pheng, who is senior director of the industry cluster group at IDA, said: "Through the interoperability model, it will allow the service providers to reach as many mobile operators as possible, without the need to individually establish technical connections, separate business agreements and keep having them updated.

"We feel this will help the service provider to improve its time to market and reduce its barrier in terms of having to invest efforts and resources in knowing the details on how to establish technical connections with different mobile operators."

This means consumers will also get access to new services more quickly, especially with the IDA hoping to get more banks and service providers on board.

DBS' senior vice-president and head of cards and unsecured loans Ms Ooi Huey Tyng, said: "We observed that contactless transactions has already increased in the past one year by 20 per cent. And we believe that will quadruple in the next three years with the mass adoption."

Consumers will need an NFC-enabled phone to pay wirelessly. This includes selected models from Nokia, Samsung and Blackberry.

Phones which are not NFC-enabled, such as Apple's iPhone, may need to be installed with a bridging device to enjoy these services.

Merchants which already accept contactless payment cards will be able to offer the service.

Those that currently accept contactless payment cards from MasterCard, Visa or CEPAS will be able to use the same device to accept such payment.

IDA also said eventually more banks and card issuers are expected to connect to the infrastructure, allowing consumers to choose from a wider variety of payment options.

Authorities said much care will be put into data security, to protect consumers who lose their phones.

Singapore inches closer to mobile wallet - singtel shop, iphone 4s singtel, m1

Labels:

, ,

In an announcement Tuesday, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) said it has appointed a consortium to develop NFC infrastructure and mobile wallet services, following a call-for-collaboration (CFC) exercise.

The consortium comprises Gemalto, which will build and operate the infrastructure; Citibank; DBS Bank; contactless payment company EZ-Link; SingTel; M1; and StarHub. Together with IDA, they will invest S$40 million (US$31.5 million) to deploy the backbone and over 10 NFC mobile payment and value-added services.

According to IDA, DBS, EZ-Link and Citibank will enable a wide range of their credit, debit and stored value cards to be issued over-the-air through Gemalto's infrastructure. These payment products will be stored on secure chips in NFC-enabled mobile phones, so that consumers can use them to make purchases at NFC-ready points.

NFC-enabled phones refer to handsets that have built-in NFC chips or non-NFC capable phones equipped with a bridging device, which can be purchased from mobile operators.

    Businesses can tap NFC
As for merchants, they would need to ensure their payment terminals are able to accept Visa or Mastercard payment, or support Singapore's Cepas standard, said IDA. They can also work with point-of-sale terminal providers to develop NFC-based features such as customer reward and loyalty redemption services, it added.

Gemalto will also work with service providers to deploy NFC mobile value-added services such as interactive digital signage advertising, mobile coupons and mobile ticketing that users can interact with or download, the ICT regulator said.

In a separate statement Tuesday, SingTel's vice president of consumer products Chan Yim Leng noted that enterprises can adopt NFC technology for automated employee identity validation too, thereby removing the need for staff access or punch cards.

The executive of Singapore's largest mobile operator added that it is looking to adapt its mobile apps to the NFC environment, citing its ILoveDeals location-based shopping app and deF!ND mobile digital concierge app as two examples. Read More

SingTel might offer you 50 more SMS, but the prices are generally higher. You'll have to pay $39.90 every month, $32 more than M1 for the 32GB iPhone 4S, and $28 more for the 64GB version. If you don't mind paying up to $205 every month, ...

The iPhone 4S might have disappointed many fans, and validated others of their move to Android, but it’s still a highly awaited smartphone to many people.

As the local launch dates draws near, both SingTel and M1 have already unveiled their plans and pricing for the new iPhone. StarHub, on the other hand, is keeping mum over its plans for the device, and already some fans are speculating whether the green telco has failed to secure an agreement with Apple in time for the launch.

But let’s work with the numbers we already have. Based on the cheapest plan from both SingTel and M1, the new iPhone will cost you anywhere from $498 to $798. M1 offers a lower monthly subscription and lower iPhone prices (with the exception of the 16GB version), but bundles 50 less SMS than SingTel.

If you don’t mind paying up to $205 every month, then you can get the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4S for free from both telcos, with the 64GB still commanding at least $108.

M1 seems to be the clear winner here, with unlimited phone calls and unlimited data bundles for $198. SingTel, on the other hand, asks for $205 per month but restricts you to 2,000 minutes of calls and 30GB of data. Read More

Read More

Apple’s iOS 5 Update Now Available For iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch - iOS 5 update is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA)

Labels:

,

The iOS 5 update is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA), iPod touch 3rd/4th generation, and the iPad/iPad 2. It’ll also come preloaded on the 4S, of course, when that device launches later this week.

It’s been a while since iOS 5 was announced to the world, so here’s a quick recap of some of the biggest features:

    • iCloud: Apple’s cloud-based content/data syncing service. Backs up your content, photos, etc. in the cloud for safe keeping, provides one-click access to redownloading all the apps you’ve ever purchased, etc.
    • iMessage: Apple’s free iOS-to-iOS messaging solution. SMS dies today.
    • Notification Center: Apple has completely overhauled their old, antiquated alerts system. You now drag down from the top of the screen to see a drawer with all notifications.
    • Newstand: Bundles all of your e-magazine/newspaper subscriptions into one smart folder
    • Reminders: a new to-do/reminder system, complete with location-based alerts
    • Twitter Integration
    • Much improved Camera UX (You can access the camera with a double tap of the home button on the homescreen, and use the volume up key to take a photo)
    • Crazy simple photo editing (Cropping, rotating, red-eye reduction) within the Photo app
    • Over-the-air updates and PC-less device activation

iOS 5, which also powers the new iPhone 4S that Apple introduced earlier this month, is a free upgrade for owners of the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad and iPad 2, and the 2009 and 2010 editions of the iPod Touch

The upgrade is necessary to access iCloud, the new online synchronization and backup service Apple opened earlier today.

Mac users running Lion must update to 10.7.2 to use iCloud.

Apple introduced iOS 5 in early June at its annual developers conference, where Scott Forstall, Apple's senior vice president of iOS software, highlighted a handful of new features, including "PC Free," the company's name for wireless activation, synchronization and updating. Read More
