Stephan Pollmann began studying the molecular bases of auxin biosynthesis in higher plants under the guidance of Elmar W. Weiler at the Ruhr-University Bochum in 1999, after which he worked in the laboratory of Meinhart H. Zenk (Biocenter Halle ⁄ Saale, Germany) and Josette Masle (ANU, Canberra, Australia). Between 2004 and 2010 he headed an independent research group at the Department of Plant Physiology, Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. Currently, one of his major concerns is with auxin biosynthesis in plants. Furthermore, plant stress responses, especially those that are mediated by oxylipins are particular matters of interest to his work. He is engaged in unravelling the complex crosstalk of oxylipins with other plant hormones, e.g. auxins or ethylene, by both genetic and mass spectrometric means. He joined the Center for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics in Madrid, Spain, in July 2010, where he was appointed Associate Professor.
