Jessica Simpson: Doing "Price of Beauty" Was Like "Missionary Work"

To Jessica Simpson, The Price of Beauty was more than just a reality show -- it's her life's calling!
"I'm not saying I'm changing the world," a teary-eyed Simpson said while accepting an award at the Gracies (which honor women in radio and TV) in Beverly Hills Tuesday.
"But...to be able to sit with my Dad and [create] Price of Beauty," she said of her VH1 show, in which she traveled the world to explore definitions of beauty in various cultures. "It's similar to missionary work. It was what I was called to do and called to be." On the series, Simpson visited a "fattening hut" in Uganda, munched fried cockroaches in Thailand, and walked a couture runway in Paris.
Despite the show's lackluster ratings and tepid reviews, the 29-year-old star said "it's changing my life, and that's what it's all about. We're all women, we are strong and there is always a life to change, and you are powerful enough to do it!"
The Gracies honored Simpson for her strength and entrepreneurial endeavors in the face of adversity and public scrutiny.
Earlier in her speech, Simpson quipped, "I'm not used to people talking so nice about me," and explained that she felt "called to the ministry" at church camp (dad Joe Simpson is a preacher) when she was 13.
"I remember calling my parents on a pay phone and said 'Dad? Mom? Guess what? I've been called into the ministry!'" she recounted to the crowd. "And they were like... 'Whoawhoawhoa, did you sign anything? Are you sure you wanna take this on?' And I was like 'Sure, really! I know right now at this very moment I can change the world. Somehow.'"

‘Lost’ reveals Jacob’s replacement

Eenie meenie miny moe ... One of these remaining survivors will replace Jacob as the island's protector. Will it be Hurley, Jack, Kate or Sawyer?



The penultimate episode of “Lost” saw a return to form Tuesday night, which means there were plenty of familiar faces and absolutely no signs of last week’s crazy-island-mama drama. Good thing, too. After all, viewers still have to contend with two different realities, conflicting body counts and a laundry list of unsolved mysteries.
Not that any of those long-term head-scratchers met their resolution. No, this glimpse into the ongoing unknown simply set up the action for the finale night’s big bang and teased at the ongoing mini-mysteries.
Why? The alt-action alone was enough to explain the forward momentum, and the on-island segments reinforced it.
Back in Los Angeles, where Jack, sister Claire and his son David were busy playing alternate-reality house, the good doctor received a call from an Oceanic rep about the recovery of his father’s missing coffin. Nice timing, only the call didn’t really come from a rep. It came from the ever-crafty, other-reality reminder, Desmond.
It seems Desmond was still a man with a single mission: remind and reunite his other-reality pals. To that end, his next prank-with-a-purpose started when he showed up at the scene of his last crime, the high-school parking lot where he plowed down Locke.
Conveniently enough, Locke, fresh from his hit-and-run vacation, wheeled in front of Desmond, who looked tempted to repeat his violent performance. That is before Ben Linus, of European History fame, stepped in to stop him.
Rather than give Ben a drawn out explanation about how Desmond’s really more interested in jogging Locke’s memory than killing him, Desmond gave Ben a hands-on example by beating him into remembering his other life. The pounding served a second purpose for the professor, who later scored a sympathy dinner with Alex and her remarkably hot mom, Rousseau.
For Desmond there was more work to be done, so it was off to the LAPD, where he confessed his crimes to Detectives Ford (aka Sawyer) and Miles Straume. The act earned him a spot on a van to the county jail, conveniently situated alongside Kate and Sayid. In other words, just where he wanted to be.
With the help of a cop on the take (Hey, Ana Lucia!) and Hurley, Des and his new-old pals were free and ready for stage two. What’s stage two? All signs point to a big alt-world reunion for the would-be and once-were friends at the benefit concert for Pierre Chang’s museum.

Elsewhere on the island, Jacob took solid form long enough to meet with the four remaining candidates in line to replace him. Yes, four. Jack, Sawyer, Hurley and Kate, whose name had been crossed off the list earlier.
According to Jacob, crossing off a name is just a matter of chalk lines. Kate was a mother for a brief while, so he took her off. She was welcome to stay in the running — if she wanted to. In fact, despite how important Jacob’s role as protector of “the light” is, each of the candidates had to make the choice to follow his lead or not.
One of them could step up as the new island big shot, or they could all walk away. It wasn’t a safe choice, but technically they had free will.
That’s all Jack needed to know. When faced with the choice, the new man of faith decided it’s the role he was always meant to assume. After a little water-into-wine action from Jacob, Jack did just that.
That’s all there was to it. Well, that and some expert snarking from Sawyer: “I thought that guy had a god complex before!”

Dewyze Crushes US ‘Idol’ Competition

Lee Dewyze performed in Illinois during his homecoming tour to adoring fans on May 14, but on Tuesday, May 18, he performed to adoring "American Idol" judges.



Let’s get this out of the way early: It’ll be Lee Dewyze and Crystal Bowersox singing next week in the “American Idol” finale.
Of course, nothing is official until the results are revealed by Ryan Seacrest during the results show Wednesday, but every sign points to Casey James being the unlucky third-place finisher. It’s not all his fault, but he didn’t do enough to give him anything more than a texter’s chance against the other two, either.
Each of the three finalists performed twice on Tuesday, one song of their choosing and one judges’ pick. James opened the show with “OK, It’s Alright With Me” by Eric Hutchinson, and it was a vintage performance from the Texan on every level. He looked natural as a performer, but uncomfortable on the “Idol” stage. He did a very nice job ... on a song that most of the audience was likely unfamiliar with.
It was the latter point that got him negative feedback from the judges, whose comments can be boiled down to “next time pick something that people have heard of.” Interesting, considering Hutchinson was one of Kelly Clarkson’s opening acts on her All I Ever Wanted tour. Guess the judges must not have shown up early enough for any of those concert dates to hear it.
That aside, it was a performance that seemed geared more toward James himself than the voters, which won’t help his chances. And Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi did him no favors by also making him sing John Mayer’s “Daughters” because, as Kara said, his audience is “women and girls.”
At this point, I have to stop the show and rant for a second. “Women and girls”? Is that saying he’s getting votes because he’s pretty to look at? Because there are plenty of men I know who enjoy the blues and country vibe that James is going for.
The cougar banter has helped James get this far, so it seems ungrateful to complain about it now, but it seems crazy to me that he’s supposed to sing to the opposite sex because of how he looks. Hey, Kara, 1950 called and it wants its pop-star story lines back.
Jackson and DioGuardi patted themselves on the back for their wisdom afterward, which is exactly why the judges who pick the songs shouldn’t get to squawk about it. But regardless, it wouldn’t have mattered because Bowersox and Dewyze were just too good.
The judges weren’t thrilled with Bowersox’s choice of “Come to My Window” by Melissa Etheridge, which is unfortunate considering that’s the type of song that will likely be on Bowersox’s debut album. But Simon Cowell mitigated some of that by noting, “What I like about you and what you did tonight is that from the very first day we met you to now in the semifinal, you haven’t compromised yourself as an artist. I have a lot of respect for you for that. You came out here and decided to do what is you.”
For Bowersox’s second song, Ellen DeGeneres had her sing Paul McCartney’s “Maybe I’m Amazed,” which was more well received and probably locked up her final spot. And in contrast to the Jackson-DioGuardi “We rule!” feedback on their song choice for James, DeGeneres put the focus on the contestant. “I couldn't have asked for more. That's what I was hoping you'd do, and you did it,” she said.
But the night belonged to Dewyze, who seemed to take a huge dose of confidence pills before going onstage. Picking Lynyrd Skynard’s “Simple Man” was a great choice. It was a song and a group that accentuates Dewyze’s strengths. Everyone loved that one, with DioGuardi stealing Cowell’s “Round One goes to ...” gimmick and giving it to Dewyze. Way to break that out a week early, Kara. Better have something new picked out for next week.
For the judges’ choice, Cowell had Dewyze sing “Hallelujah.” When I heard that, my first reactions were “Why?” and “Not again”! The song’s had more than its fair share of “Idol” airplay, which makes me think that we’ll be hearing a lot of it at the season 10 auditions, which means I may have to buy a new TV next year when I hurl my set to the floor in frustration when that song gets mangled.
To his credit, Dewyze made Cowell look like a genius, which is great considering the British judge is a meek and mild man looking for an ego boost. Oh, wait ... that’s usually Dewyze, but not Tuesday night. He performed with the most swagger he’s shown all season. It was enough to win him the night and likely ensure that he and Bowersox will be back next week for what’s sure to be an entertaining and memorable finale.

‘Gossip Girl’ Momsen Shrugs Off Dark Image

NEW YORK - Taylor Momsen thinks people get too worked up over her goth look.
The 16-year-old "Gossip Girl" star is often called dark, but she says: "Dark is a relative term."
Added Momsen in a recent interview: "It just depends on what you consider dark, you know? I think some people think I'm a Satan worshipper or something."
Besides acting, Momsen is also the lead singer of a band called The Pretty Reckless, which will release its first EP next month on June 22.
Momsen describes the music as heavy rock, and says listeners can expect to be "screamed at."

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick Split – Professionally

Britney Spears is parting with Jason Trawick as her agent, but keeping him as a beau.

The two "have decided to end their professional relationship and focus on their personal relationship," a Spears rep tells PEOPLE. "Since wrapping her recent world tour, Spears has been busy in the studio working on her next album."
