'BEING A SINGLE MOTHER WAS TOUGH FOR MOM'

...says PFMI World Manasvi Mamgai, for her mother Prabha Mamgai, who raised her single handedly post her divorce. 22-years-old, Manasvi has no one but her mom to thank for being where she is today.

Though problems crawled into her parental paradise quite early in her life, but it was when Manasvi turned 17 that she saw her parents parting ways. However, a strong girl that she is, Manasvi chooses to let bygones be bygones and not to discuss the painful past in the present. “It was a difficult phase. But I firmly believe that all that happens, happens for good. And the ups and downs have made me emerge stronger.”

Dealing with separation never comes easily to kids. And suddenly not having one of the most important persons in your life around is not easy to cope with either. How did you manage? I would be lying if I say, I didn’t miss him, but as I said, my mom had major contribution in my upbringing. So, in a way I had learnt to live without him.”

Though she has moved on from the past and makes one feel that she has broken all the ties with her father but in some part of heart still feels connected to the man. And probably that made Manasvi share the big news of her victory with her father. “We don’t really talk. It’s only a few messages that connect us now. On the day of the pageant also, we exchanged a few messages.”

It is quite evident that Manasvi wants to steer clear from that part of her life. Partly, because she doesn’t want to give out a message that she wants to “win over people’s sympathy,” states the girl, and secondly because she still has respect and concern for him. “He’s still my dad,” reassures Manasvi.

So, without bothering her further, we preferred to keep our talk only about herself and her mother as suggested by Manasvi. With gratitude in her heart Manasvi, applauds her mother for playing the part of both the parents, whenever needed. “She’s been both – mom and dad to me. She supported me in a way that I never felt the need of having a father,” shares Manasvi.

A broken marriage, a daughter who’s looking forward to a career that’s quite unconventional, it must have been a challenge But what about the challenges she faced? “Trust me, its not easy to be a single mother. But she has been a strong woman. She never cared of what people were saying. What mattered to her the most was what I wanted to do in life.”

She has always sheltered me, no matter what she was going through. “It was when I was venturing into modeling that she was going through her divorce. But she never let that affect me. I never faced the pressure of her divorce,” shares Manasvi.

But does her parents’ separation affect her opinion about marriage? Answers Manasvi, “There’s nothing like that. I still believe in the institution of marriage and the power of love. It’s just that, being through all this, I’ll be able to take a better decision. Looks and money don’t matter anymore but he has to have a noble heart and a good soul.”Source URL: http://pokbongkoh.blogspot.com/2010/05/blog-post_16.html
